I urge you to read on...I have been a huge fan of this restaurant for many years. Whenever guest and family come to visit we always included a trip to DaRuMa. The Hibachi style dinners are generally unique. However, the poor attitude of the management is, I believe, enough for you to preclude them from your visit to Sarasota. Prices are more high end, which is OK, but with that said, customer service should be on par. I have found this restaurant to have a very poor who cares about you attitude when it comes to reservations and general treatment. With parties of 5 or more they add a hefty gratuity charge, which in itself is pretty insulting, since the food is prepared tableside so wait staff is limited to one drink server and the chef. We always tip the chef directly and when talking about a tab of 3, 4 or 500 dollars the added onto the bill tip is sizable.

If you are running late (10 minutes) and call beforehand, they will ungratiously warn you that they refuse to hold your reservation past a 10 minute window, even if half of your party is already there ..running up a bar bill - I find this attitude appalling for their supportive clientele - they simply do not care about you as a patron.

There are many decent restaurants in Sarasota - go to one that treats you with respect and pass this one up!
